Old Churches

I have always loved old churches and stopped to take some pictures of two on one of my recent trips to Monterey that I have admired for some time now. The churches below are in a little town called Pacific Grove.

This is the Pacific Grove
Heritage House
St. Mary's
By the Sea
built in 1887

I do not have any information on this church, but I love how it resembles a castle.

May peace be with you

  3. Beautiful! Our brother lives on towne square in a teeny tiny town, a block each way is a church, and they all have chimes, it is so awesome to go there and from his porch see stained glass in every direction and hear the melodic sounds in the wind......Beautiful!

  4. That castle-ish one looks like an Anglican church. Our church looks like that...churches in England look like that! (I've seen my mum's piccies.)
Thanks for showing us, it's like being able to walk through town with you Angela!

  5. Hi Angela, Churches are among my favorite places to visit. I always manage to find one when I'm in a new place.

  7. Lovely Angela. Like Gill says the one looks Anglican. Church architecture has always interested me, and I love to photograph them too.

  10. You will have to come and look around some of our English churches, I'm sure you would enjoy them. Our local parish church is on a hill and I had the chance to go to the top of the tower. Great views, but my fingernail marks are probably still up there, it seemed awfully high and the parapet was way too low for my liking, it was all I could do to stand there gripping the stonework for dear life!

  11. I love churches that look like churches. As much as I love my own church, I am missing the actual church building. We meet in a school for the time being. And many independent churches down here meet in store front buildings. I find that just odd. But I guess I'm getting a lesson about books and covers, eh?

    Love your photos.

  15. I love old churches. My one and only trip to the east coast was filled with many a church visiting all up and down the eastern seaboard. I loved the history that spoke to me from the moment I set eyes on a new one to the peace of the inner sanctuaries. It's why I'm dying to go to Europe...

Love these buildings. I'm planning a trip up the coast next month and might stop by Pacific Grove and see them in person...
