I've Tried... But Me No Likey ~

I've tried sushi several times because everyone has raved about it and it actually does look really good. I will never forget the first time I experienced this type of food, it was at my sister's baby shower. I took a bite and it came right back out and onto my napkin. My mom and I did it almost in unison. We both immediately looked around to see if anyone saw us.

The thought of raw fish doesn't sound appetizing to me, so that doesn't help. But then I came across a vegetarian Californian roll that looked good. It consisted of brown rice, cucumber, carrots, and avocado. I just knew this was the one! I would officially be able to say, "I like sushi!" I took one, put it in my mouth and it came right back out. I couldn't eat it. I am trying to accept it; as pretty as sushi is, I feel my taste buds do not want anything to do with it. Confusing. I was disappointed to say the least. Maybe I am eating it wrong? I probably should go with a group of friends to a sushi restaurant, so that I could watch them and then try it myself. I must be doing something wrong! Do I need to smother it with Tamari sauce or wash it down with a swig of Sake?

I guess what baffles me is if I can eat calamari, why can't I LIKE a vegetarian Californian roll?

  1. Try the sake before you try the sushi. As for me, I don't have the courage to try it. Besides, I don't like cucumber either. ;-)
