Thrilla in Manila
As we walked across the street coming from the doctor's office on the twelfth of June (bone cancer being confirmed), Charlie had a strong demeanor as he started doing the fighter's dance swinging his arms in the air, as if he was hitting the cancer square in the face.
In a deep growl he said, "I will fight this and win!"
Boxing has always been my husbands favorite sport.
I asked him, "Which fight of Ali's (his favorite boxer) would you compare this to?"
He didn't hesitate and said, "Definitely the Ali/Frazier fight."
Charlie went on to tell me why and the history concerning the two boxers.
He asked me, "Do you know who won the third fight?"
I said smiling, "You."
#1 fight
#2 fight
#3 fight
*NOTE ~ I feel bad about putting Frazier and cancer in the same boat. Sorry Frazier!

Charlie has the proper attitude. Maryann used to say, "I've got cancer, it hasn't got me." It's been 12 years since it was first diagnosed. She has been in remission for about 4 years now.
ReplyDeleteHer sense of humor has come to the fore and with great results. We certainly prescribe humor and lots of it for you all.
Love and lots of positive energy coming your way from us.
Tell Charlie, Don and I are in HIS corner.
ReplyDeleteMy dad LOVED boxing, and before TV I remember him sitting in front of the big Philco Radio and listening blow by blow to the boxing matches.
I was young, but it seemed to be my Dad's happiest moments.
I was reading Jack K. and am so encouraged by his wife, Maryann. I take much from his remarks, and have really tried to keep my sense of humor too.
Start my radiation middle of Aug.
Love and Hugs
