Faithful And True ~

Jack
January 1998 - March 29, 2010

The Darkest Evening of the Year
By Dean Koontz

Dog’s lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and for the mistakes we make because of these illusions.

  1. I am saddened by your loss of Jack. It is a pain that only a dog person can truly understand, for you have lost a friend who was ever true, ever loyal, ever loving.

Some years back,Pebbles, my cat, scratched me for the first time in her life, awakening me when my home was ablaze. I got out, found she had crawled under the bed in panic. I got 2nd & 3rd degree burns on my face and hands crawling back in for her. No good. But I managed to save my Norwegian Elk Hound, Hercules. Sadly, he died days later from a stroke.

You had good years with Jack, memories that his death left behind. They hurt now. But they will eventually bring back smiles along with the tears.

And in my worldview, I believe Jack is waiting for you as Pebbles and Herucles are waiting for me.

My prayers are with you, Roland

  2. I remember Jack! He always reminded me of our Sam. Yes, how hard it is to loose those animals that are so dear to us.

Angela, I must say you expressed yourself in your post so beautifully....I feel you loss, and I love you.

  3. You haven't posted in 5 days. I know better than to ask if you are all right. But I pray you are healing just a bit. Roland
